The Unburdened Home offers calm, practical help with the everyday questions of later life. We started with downsizing: clearing a family home, deciding what to keep, and talking about it with the people you love. We are widening that to the other things many older people deal with: setting up home technology, choosing tech gifts for grandchildren, spotting scams, and moving house. It is made by an independent creator, as a YouTube channel and this website.
How each guide is made
- Each guide starts as a script for our YouTube channel, written to be clear, kind and practical, with no rush and no jargon.
- Where a guide relies on research or published facts, the source is listed at the end and numbered in the text. Examples of people, such as "a mother called Margaret", are made up to illustrate a point, and we say so.
- The page for each video is the written version of the same script, usually with a checklist you can print.
- The pictures are our own AI-generated images. The people in them are not real.
About the voice
The videos are narrated in the creator's own voice. The German and Spanish audio tracks are AI voice translations of that voice, read from adaptations we write ourselves rather than from a machine translation.
